Greetings:
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Family fraternal service organization, true to its founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. The organization was founded in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney, a young parish priest, who saw the need to build a fraternal support group within in his parish to support the Catholic families who were oppressed. From a small basement in New Haven, Connecticut, the Knights have grown to over 2.1 million members providing service to their parishes and communities worldwide. More information can be found about Knights of Columbus at www.kofc.org
In founding the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Father McGivney saw a serious need for financial assistance for families where the husband/father, usually the only breadwinner in the family, was seriously injured or killed on or off the job. To accomplish the latter, he established an insurance fund for the financial security of member’s families. who had found themselves in need of assistance.
